Fishing For Ezine Subscribers

Fishing For Ezine Subscribers

 by: David Leonhardt

The Bible tells the tale of the fishermen who were just not catching a thing. Jesus came along and told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat, which they did. Surprise! They caught so many fish their nets began to tear.

Jesus had a strategy. He thought outside the box. And he knew where to go. Of course, when you're God, you tend to know a lot of things.

What about fishing for ezine subscribers? Don't expect Jesus to tell you where to cast your subscription net. You will have to build some other strategy. In the meantime, here are the six steps I sued to grow my free online Happy Class ( http://thehappyguy.com/self-actualization-happy-class.html ) list by 27 last night, and my Daily Dose of Happiness (http://thehappyguy.com/daily-happiness-free-ezine.html) by 10.

Step # 1: Sign up for Subscription Rocket ( http://thehappyguy.com/SR.html ) and install the code on every page of your web site. SR is a small pop-under offering your visitors free subscriptions to newsletters. Unlike some pop-ups, this pop-under is unobtrusive and nobody has ever complained. Every time the screen pops under your site, your ezine pops under four other similar sites. Most of my ezine subscribers had never even heard of me or visited my site before they signed up.

Step # 2: Get lots of traffic to your site. The Internet traffic gurus will tell you to attract only TARGETED traffic. But, with SR, any traffic will do. 1000 non-targeted visitors might be useless to you, but they will trigger 4000 appearances of your ezine notice to targeted visitors of other sites. Get the most targeted traffic possible, yes, but whatever you do, get traffic. More on this later.

Step # 3: Get sub-affiliates, and get lots of them. Every time web sites you referred get visitors to their sites, you earn three credits. So 1000 visitors to www.Looky-who-I-referred.com means YOUR ezine gets seen by 3000 targeted visitors at other sites.

Step # 4: Replace some of the SR codes with Subscriber Drive codes. What's the difference? Not much. They are almost identical. You can see how SD works at www.TheHappyGuy.com/self-actualization-articles.html . Why use both? Two reasons.

First, you don't want to run out of targeted subscribers. For instance, if you run an Internet marketing newsletter, you don't want one service to run out of similar sites on which to display your ezine and start showing it to visitors of vampire-slaying sites.

Second, if you can get multiple credits for each visitor to your site ... if you stagger the two services along the well-worn surfing routes. I have SR code on my home page, and SD code on my Self-actualization Resource Center, where the largest number of home page visitors tend to gravitate.

Let's start thinking way outside the box.

5. How do you get big traffic to your site? Suppose, for instance, your ezine and web site are about Internet marketing, competing with 4.5 million savvy entries on Google. Slim chance getting a top ten ranking, or even a top 100 ranking.

Consider your hobbies. Suppose you like horseback riding. Why not have a page on horseback riding, optimized for a couple juicy equestrian keywords, where you compete with just 700,000 not so savvy web sites? What does horseback riding have to do with Internet marketing? Everything, if it is about the publisher (you!). You might also post a page on Italian cuisine, where your keyword optimization competes with only 200,000 other Google entries. These could both be under "About the publisher".

In addition to the untargeted traffic who will bring you targeted subscribers from other sites by tripping the SR and SD codes, your visitors will get to know you better as a human being, a key factor in building trust with them. You can also add affiliate links for related products (want to sell a horse?) and actually make some money from these extra pages. (If you like happiness, why not use one of my happiness articles and sell my two happiness ebooks through affiliate links from http://thehappyguy.com/earn-money.html?)

6. Another way to boost traffic to your site is to keep sending your subscribers to your site. If there is a free ebook download (or software or puzzle or graphic or recipe) or a contest to enter, you can have subscribers visiting your web site each week. I set up a Daily Fun page http://thehappyguy.com/l/daily-happiness-fun-page.php for subscribers to Your Daily Dose of Happiness. Every time one of them visits, she earns me four views of my ezine notice to targeted traffic on other web sites. This page is getting an average of 100 hits a day, and that will increase as my ezine readership grows.

Jesus could help you catch way more subscribers than I can. But until he offers some alternatives, these are the steps you can take to turbo boost your subscriber catch.

4 Critical Fly Fishing Tips

Good Fly Presentation

Obviously, the goal when casting a fly is to present the fly to the fish in a realistic manner. You are trying to simulate nature here. If you are going for trout in a stream, for instance, this means a drag-free float of 36 inches over a precise spot that marks the window of a feeding fish.

Also remember that the Evening Secret (http://www.eveningsecretfishing.com/specialsecret/4_Fly_Fishing_Tips.php) will swarm fish to your spot consistantly, and help you catch more fish.

Never randomly cast you have got to pick a spot and hit it. Throw tight loops that put the fly on target. One important method that can be used is to overcast the target and stop the line short while it is in the air. The fly should come back to you and fall on the water with slack in the leader.

The best trout fishermen fish with only 30 to 35 feet of line, but make up for this with accurate casting. They read waters will and put the fly in the p ay zone time after time. One of the most important thins they do is to recognize that presentation and approach are much more important than pattern.

It is different for bass. Whether a surface bug or a streamer, the offering must move past a spot where a bass is apt to hold. As the boat drifts, it is important to pick a precise time to shoot a cast to the target. Too soon or too late, and the fly wont be in the right spot. This is where the double haul form of casting becomes essential. It generates line speed and enables the caster to pick 30 or 40 feet of line off the water and shoot another without false casting.

When bassing, make your presentation, retrieve 10 to 20 feet, pick up, and cast again without the need to false cast. After each one, drop the rod type and keep the butt of the rod near your belt buckle with the tip-top of the rod pointing at the line. A simple lift will let you execute the next pickup or strike a fish.

Leader Connection

If you are a fly caster, you know that a smooth connection between the leader and fly line is important in presentation. The best way to do this is to nail-knot a six-inch piece of 25-30 pound leader material to the end of the fly line. A loop like those found on snelled hooks is then tied into the opposite end. The connecting leader must also have a loop.

Connecting the leader itself is done by passing the loop attached to the fly line through the loop on the leader; reaching through the fly line loop. Next, grab the butt section of the leader and pull the leader up through until the tippet passes the loop. Last, just pull the loops together by tugging on the fly line and the butt section in opposite directions.

Strategy

If you are every in a situation where see large brown trout in open water and hold, your best bet is to use a No. 12 Cinnamon Ant and sink it. If this doesnt work, move to the No.16 Adams fly. Still nothing? Switch to the No. 20 Black Ant. Last-ditch effort would be to use a 3X tippet and use a No. 6 nymph or streamer.

Typically the bigger trout will leave small morsels to the small guys, preferring the bigger bites that are easy to get. They are very economical feeders.

High Rider Dry Flys

If your best dry-fly patterns are failing you, it may be time to switch to spiders and variants. Many times a spider or variant will bring trout to the surface, then you can switch back to a conventional dry fly.

These spiders and variants will delicately drop to the water, usually somersaulting or jumping after touching it. Fish find this very alluring.

High riding is another attribute of these flies. When tied properly, their hackles support the hook above the waters surface, thus imitating a natural fly much more closely than the ordinary fly does.

Quick Guide to Flies Used for Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is a niche area for the overall sport of fishing. Unlike niches in other sports, it is very unique when compared to the more popular angling.

The mere name of fly fishing suggests something very different. No, it doesn?t have anything to do with elevating yourself. Instead, the ?fly? in the name refers to the thing used to tempt the fish to strike. While hooks and bait are important in all forms of fishing, the nature of flies for fly fishing has taken on a life of its own. For beginners, it can be downright intimidating, so here is a quick primer.

A fly is a combination of a hook and bait. In this case, the bait is usually an artificial mish mash that is designed to look delicious to the particular fish being targeted. To you and me, it often just looks like a ball of fur and color, but who are we to argue with the fish? In reality, the idea with the fly is to mimic the favorite bait of the fish in question, which is often a bug of some sort.

There are many ways to categorize flies. I prefer to go with simplest first. The first categorization is the dry fly versus the wet fly. What is the difference between them? The wet fly is intended to sink under the water once you have cast it into the water. The dry fly is intended to sit on the top of the water, much like particular bugs do. While this may sound like a fairly simple and logical explanation, it often becomes problematic in the real world. With the continuing evolution of flies, some dry flies actually are intended to end up under the waterline. That being said, let?s not confuse things too much!

Now things get messy. Long ago, the actual names for particular flies were logical and made common sense. A steelhead fly was obviously to be used for catching steelhead fish. Many flies still carry the name of their intended bait, but a vast new line of flies does not. Fortunately, many of this new group carry at least some portion of the fly or bug they are supposed to imitate. Such names include nymphs, mayflies and caddis to mention a few. As to the rest of them, the names appear to come from the Star Wars version of fly fishing and your guess is as good as mine.

So, how do you select your flies? The best method has been around for over a hundred years ? ask! The best fly depends on the fish you are going after and the conditions during that time of the year. The only way to get this information is to talk with people familiar with the area or by chatting up the locals at the closest fishing equipment store. The chaps issuing fishing licenses can also be very helpful.

Fishing Day

Fishing Day
Reenie and her mama love to go fishing down by the river. But the peace of their idyllic fishing spot is often marred by the appearance of Peter Troop and his daddy. Peter is up-jumpy and loud, scaring the fish away. And the Troops harbor some resentment toward them, too. Peter and his daddy are fishing for food; Reenie and Mama fish for fun. The Troops are white; Reenie and Mama are black. And in the Jim Crow South, it is this last difference that is most significant. One day, when the Troops' fishing reel breaks, Reenie overcomes their mutual fear and mistrust to help Peter-an act that holds the promise of friendship and understanding. This is a moving story about two children crossing boundaries of race, class, and gender, and about small acts that make a big difference.

River Fishing - Smallmouth Bass

River fishing for Smallmouth Bass can be a ton of fun. Many anglers may not realize it, but smallmouth bass can be fished for in much the same way that trout are. You can put on your waders, fishing vest, and polarized sunglasses, then grab your ultra light rod and go fishing for smallmouth bass, just like you do for trout. Smallmouth bass can even be caught using many of the same techniques.

If you're a live bait angler, as I am, Smallmouth bass offer me a great way to keep my angling skills sharp for trophy trout (at least that's how I look at it). Smallmouth Bass are widely considered to be the hardest fighting fish, pound for pound that swims in freshwater. I don't know if this is really true, because I've met many rainbow trout with "skills", but smallmouth can definitely hold their own. You couple the tenacity of a smallmouth with the current in a river, and you've got a recipe for a great time!

One of the best techniques that can be used to catch smallmouth in rivers is to use a live worm. Sure hellgrammites and minnows work well too, but for me a live worm rigged on a set of gang hooks is hard to beat. You see, a set of gang hooks is simply two small hooks tied in tandem, which presents a live worm in a completely natural manner. When you use a set of #10 gang hooks, it's hard to tell there arte even hooks in the worm. And if a human being has a hard time seeing the hooks, doesn't it stand to reason that the fish won't be able to see the hooks either?

Lures can also be used to catch smallmouth bass in rivers. Spinners and spoons are a great choice. Colors used will vary depending on conditions and experimentation is always the key to lure fishing. Frog imitations are usually a good idea and red and white spoons/spinners always seem to produce well. Another great lure for smallmouth is a jig. A jig with a Powerbait twister tail will sometimes out fish live bait, especially when fishing for smallmouth bass in rivers. Again, for the right color, experimentation is the key.

If you're in an are of the country where there are smallmouth bass, don't forget to put of your waders, fill your bait bag with worms, grab your gang hooks, and go fishing for them in rivers. Whether you do it for the shear enjoyment of a good fight or so stay in shape for trout fishing, the point is that catching smallmouth bass in rivers makes for a great time.

River Fishing - Rainbow Trout

One of my favorite things to do in this world is river fishing for rainbow trout. Standing in the flowing water of a river or stream, attempting to catch a large rainbow, is one of my favorite activities. There are many aspects of river fishing for rainbows that appeals to me, but the biggest has to be the challenge of trying to catch large rainbows (over 20 inches) on ultra light gear (4lb test monofilament). My mentor used to catch monster Rainbows in central Pennsylvania, and I've been hooked ever since he taught me his techniques twenty+ years ago.

There's also something about seeing that "flash" of red while fighting a large rainbow, that I think I'm addicted to. It's quite a feeling, which for some reason isn't ever matched by any other fish. River fishing for rainbow trout has to be one of the most enjoyable types of fishing.

The most effective way to catch a rainbow trout while wade fishing is to use live worms. Rainbows find worms difficult to resist in most situations. I know "flea flickers" scoff at the idea of using worms as bait, but the techniques that my mentor taught me more than twenty years ago are every bit as technical and artistic as anything a "flea flicker" does. So what are these techniques to catch rainbows in rivers?

The biggest thing to learn is to present your offering in the most natural way possible. Fly fishermen know all about presenting their offering in a natural manner, and so did my mentor. He used gang hooks. Gang hooks enable the angler to present a worm in a completely natural manner. A live worm rigged on a set of gang hooks doesn't look any different that a live worm with no hooks in it at all! This is an incredible advantage when fishing for a fish that is as intelligent as a large trout. So, when fishing for rainbow trout in rivers, gang hooks are a must.

The technique is simply to bounce that worm off of the bottom as it flows through the current. You don't use your reel or anything. You simply cast out, and let the worm drift with the current, naturally. Just as the worm would had you just thrown it into the current. It's an incredibly simple, yet effective technique. When river fishing for Rainbow Trout, this is a great technique. You may be wondering what gang hooks are? They are simply two small hooks tied in tandem. They are fairly easy to learn how to tie yourself or you can buy them ready to go from somewhere like JRWfishing, the choice is yours. The bottom line is that River Fishing ? Rainbow Trout - & Gang Hooks all go together like the pieces of a fishing puzzle.

River fishing for rainbow trout can be done in many parts of the United States. The only places that Rainbow Trout won't be found are those areas of the country that are incredibly hot. As a rule, trout prefer clean clear water, such as that flowing out of various rivers in the northern parts of North America.

What to consider when stocking your aquarium. I just dont have room for him or the time. Comes with a wire mesh top with a hole cut out for filter. Probably because he is lame and thinks it looks scary or cool. The shark tank to the right is built into the wall between 2 executive offices. Acrylic weighs less than glass, is normally. I also have a fair chunk of bog wood in there, two small java ferns. Heat the cab to room temp and make sure he doesnt get too hot nor too cold. Or should I get Big
