For A Challenge Why Not Try Bass Fishing Tournaments
If you are someone who takes his fishing a little more seriously than the next person and you need more challenges than fishing for leisure gives you then you probably already know about the different bass fishing tournaments that are happening around the world. But for all you novices out there that are in need of a little more excitement then I'll fill you in.
Bass fishing tournaments are where anglers are in competition with one another to catch the heaviest volume of bass within a certain amount of time. This is a very challenging competition. You must be a pretty good angler and know the best places to fish plus you need a strategy to follow. You must be careful to keep your catch alive as well because if they die they are not counted in the weigh up at the end of the time limit. Then all your hard work was for nothing.
Not every angler enjoys fishing like this, as it can be too challenging and fast paced. Many fishing enthusiasts prefer to just sit quietly on the banks or in a boat and fish. That's the good thing about fishing, there is something to suit everyone. Bass fishing tournaments are also great to watch on tv. There are many fishing shows on television these days and they are very exiting to watch.
One of the bigger tournaments of this kind is the Bassmasters Challenge and this is held in North America. This is a high standard tournament that brings in the very top anglers to compete against one another. If this type of fishing competition is for you then you can participate with other like-minded fishermen in smaller bass fishing tournaments run by different fishing associations. There may be an association that runs these in your home town.
If you already belong to an association or club then you should be able to find out through them or check out the many magazines that are all about angling. Of course, the internet is a great source of information as well. If you can stand the pressure of competing within a time limit and you have the right equipment and are knowledgeable about this type of fishing then by all means go ahead and have a go. You could become the next champion!
But then again if you just prefer to go somewhere to fish plain and simply for relaxation purposes then of course, do that too. Fishing in itself is challenging enough whether you are in a race or just passing the time away. Most people will be just as happy to catch one fish as apposed to catching many. What ever you decide to do I wish you good luck.

The Weather and Fishing
Every veteran angler has his "superstitions". Some think it is time wasted to fish when "the wind is from the south." But, be that as it may, if a bait is dragged under a fish's nose, when he is hungry, it does not make any difference to him which way the wind is blowing.
Brook trout don't necessarily take bait any the less eagerly because "The sun is shining"?provided you keep out of their sight and they don't see the glint of your rod, or its shadow on the water. For these reasons your catch is likely to be bigger on a cloudy day.
The salmon cares not whether it be cloudy or fair, or misty or cold, but he does have his preference for the deeps when the surface water is warm. A little sprinkle of rain makes the fish sit up and take notice and a shower will often be followed by active biting. After the downfall of an hour or more, however, the novelty seems to wear off and you might as well go back to camp and get into dry clothes.
In bright sunshine with the surface like a mill pond, the black bass will not be very much interested in anything you have to offer him, either on your fly leader or in "plug" or still fishing.
Moreover, all varieties of fresh water fish have to be coaxed and coddled more in the early spring than later on. The water is ice cold then and they have not fully awakened from their winter numbness. In June the healthy trout, salmon and bass fight like bull dogs.
The consensus of opinion among successful anglers seems to be that the weather conditions have less to do with the number of fish caught than is popularly believed. It is pretty generally agreed among those who have observed, that if you can place your lure in sight of a fish during its periodic feeding mood, it will take it, whether the weather be fair, cloudy, calm, or breezy, and they further agree that if a fish is not hungry you cannot make him swallow the bait, under 'the most favorable weather conditions," so called.
