Tips for Archery Fishing

Also known as Bow fishing, this is a sport wherein a fisherman uses archery fish tanks equipment to fish.

A regular hunting bow can be used for fishing by simply attaching a reel to the front of the bow grip.

Archery fishing is especially favored by regular hunters when regular game like deer are off season. This way they can continuously hone their skills for whatever season it may be.

Before engaging in archery fishing, one must first take into consideration the following:

1. A fisherman must be duly licensed. Some states require that an individual have a state license to fish.

2. Equipment. Most states have a predetermined set of approved equipment for archery fishing.

Tuning. Tuning is making sure that the bow is at its best working condition puffer fish. To ensure this, one has to continuously adjust the rest and calibrate the nock.

For deep sea fishing charters a faster tuning process, one may shoot a regular bow-fishing arrow (without the tip) onto a target made of cardboard.

Marksmanship or targeting. Bow fishing and bow hunting, though similar on some aspects, really do differ on many things. Arrows for bow fishing are heavier, have larger arrow tips and, the most obvious one, has a string attached to the arrow.

And since fish are shot in the water, resistance differs as when compared to shooting in the air (for bow hunting of games)

There are various methods or ways of archery fishing. This includes the following:

1. Still hunting. A fisherman texas fishing selects a place by the lake in which he would wait for passing fish to shoot its bow at.

2. Stalking. This can be done on foot or while on a boat. One is in constant motion in an attempt to locate fish.

3. Ambush. Fish that are best ambushed are the ones that are spawning since they tend to crowd thus increasing chances of target.

So what is the secret to catching the big one? Well, we wish we knew, but like many other mysteries in life this one probably will never be solved either. Fishing is a sport enjoyed by men, women and children of all ages around the entire globe Some fish for sport, others fish because they enjoy the peace and relaxation of it, and some fish to provide food for the family table. Most people, however, fish for the pure enjoyment of the activity. In fact, it is estimated that less than 25% of the fish caught are ever killed - most are released back into the waters. For many, this is truly a recreational enjoyment.

So if we don't know the secret to catching the big one what do we know? Well, there are a few things you can do to help make your next fishing adventure more enjoyable and increase your odds of attracting bigger, better fish.

First, make sure your pole matches the fish you are trying to catch. If your pole can't support the weight of the fish you are trying to catch then it stands a chance of breaking. The same holds true for the line you are using. Some fish can weigh in excess of 40lbs or more and when combined with the weight of the water pushing against them can put a strain on both poles and fishing line. Know your fish and know your equipment so you don't let the "big one" get away!

It doesn't take a fortune to fish. Fishing is in its basic form a sport that can be enjoyed with almost zero investment in equipment. All too often people spend a small fortune in supplies, bait and gadgets that do nothing more than create additional items to lug around with you. When you are buying gear, remember simple works best. Fish are very timid creatures and most of them are not going to be attracted to anything that makes noise or is distracting in nature. Furthermore, the fish have no idea whether you paid $10 for that pole or $100 - so buy something good, but leave the luxury poles in the rack where they belong.

The two most important things that a fisherman can take with him or her is bug repellant and a good knife. You don't want to be spending all day long shooing away bugs or getting bit by mosquitoes, and you certainly don't want to have to try and cut hooks or line without a good knife. A good pocket knife can be a fisherman's best friend providing not only the right tool for dealing with line and hook issues, but also being a universal accessory for all his outdoor needs.

Remember that fish are primarily looking for food and - despite what you may have heard - bait is bait. Fish don't know the difference between wheatie balls and gourmet liver on the end of the hook. They are simply biting because the item appears to be food and/or is moving. So save your money on the fancy bait and stick to the basics!

In the northern half of the United States, fishing for walleye is a very popular activity. This is true, I believe, because the walleye can be a very challenging fish to catch, and is also delicious. Walleye is one of the most popular fresh water species for eating. A shore lunch featuring walleye is a very difficult meal to beat, no matter what type of food it may be compared to. When many people think of the term 'walleye' they immediately think of Canada, but the truth is that walleye are found all throughout the northern half of the United States as well.

So where do walleye get their name? Simple. The name 'walleye' comes from the fact that their eyes reflect light, much the way a cats eyes do. This is the result of a light gathering layer within the eye that allows the walleye to see well in low light conditions. Obviously, because Mother Nature gave the walleye this equipment, they are more apt to feed at night. As a matter of fact many anglers attempt to catch walleyes at night, although the cover of darkness is by no means a must for catching walleye. Being able to see well in low light conditions means that on many instances, walleye can be found in deep water, where there is less light.

Seeing as how they are literally designed to see well in low light conditions, these are the best condition to catch these fish. Fishing is generally better on overcast days and when the water is choppy. When the water is very choppy the walleye can see quite well, due the design of their eyes. Here's an interesting little trivia fact for you. Did you know that the walleye is the state fish of Minnesota? If you're lucky that might get you a pie piece in trivial pursuit some day?

Walleye are fished for in a variety of ways. Casting or trolling with spinners or minnow-imitating plugs is always a good bet. Special harness rigs of spinners and beads, with a worm attached are often trolled. Jigs, either traditional bucktails, are a favorite tactic of many anglers, and some even tiop their jig with a live minnow. Another wonderful technique is to find a tributary stream that feeds a lake or river that contains walleye. In the spring and fall, walleye will enter these streams to feed and spawn. Using a gang hook rig baited with a live worm is a great technique for walleye at these times of year. The angler simply bounces the live worm rigged on a set of gang hooks along the bottom as it floats down the stream. The techniques can be deadly.

However a person chooses to fish for walleye the point is that the walleye is an incredbly popular fish to try to catch. Whether it be sport or the dinner table seems to make little difference to the seasoned walleye angler. They simply love the challnge of catching them. The people of Minnestota would obviously agree, seeing as how they made the walleye the staate fish.

Carrying Worms While Fishing

If you're anything like me, you like to fish with live worms. Carrying live worms can be a pain in the butt. You have to carry that bulky Styrofoam container around with you the entire time you're fishing. In my case, I walk two or three miles every time I go fishing, crossing the river four or five times in the process. Because of all of this moving around, I would have to put the Styrofoam worm container inside a pocket of my fishing vest. This always resulted in the Styrofoam container breaking, plus pulling out the container every time I needed a worm was a complete hassle.

On one fishing trip I came up with an idea. What if I could take my worms fishing with me, and not have to take the container they come in? I came up with the idea of a little pouch. What if I had a little pouch or bag that I could attach to myself that would hold my fishing worms? So I did exactly that. Once I saw the "bait bag", I liked it, but then wondered if it would actually work? It seemed like the worms would crawl out, if they were just transferred to the bag for the day of fishing? So I tried it. I transferred the live worms into the bag.

Can you guess what happened? The little buggers didn't move. They just sat there waiting to be used. The worms nestled in the bottom of the "bag", like a baby kangaroo in its mothers pouch. It was amazing. Now the worms were hanging right on the front of my vest for easy access. My worms were literally "at my fingertips".

That was nearly 20 years ago, since then the bag has gotten a little bigger and looks better, but the technique of carrying my worms has remained the same. To me, Styrofoam containers are just what I buy the worms in, and then as soon as I get to my fishing area, the worms are transferred into my bait bag, so my worms are at my fingertips ready to be used. I would suggest that you get your hands on a bait bag, whether you make it yourself or buy it, so you too will never have to worry about those stupid Styrofoam containers again. Once you begin employing a bait bag to carry your live worms, you will never fish without it.

Deep Sea Fishing For Cod In Maine

Few anglers can resist the opportunity to fight and land a trophy fish, which is why deep sea fishing in Maine continues to be so popular throughout the fishing season. Though Maine?s many waterways are home to a considerable number of larger species, few compare to the cod which can be found just a few miles off the coast. With that in mind, thousands of anglers take to the seas between July and September on their own boats or chartered trips in search of that once in a lifetime catch. Whether you fish regularly, or are just a beginner looking for a challenge, deep sea fishing for cod provides the perfect answer.

Deep sea fishing is often referred to as ground fishing, whereby the aim is to fish close to the seabed. Species such as cod are bottom feeders, which mean that they scavenge for food along the seabed, and so ground fishing is the most productive technique to use. Cod will take a variety of baits, including artificial lures, baited feathers, sand eels, squid, mussels or crab. Other baits may also work depending on the mood of the fish and the food sources that are typically available in the area.

Like many other saltwater species, cod can typically be found near disturbances on the seabed. Rough ground, ledges, wrecks and other obstacles are all excellent places to find cod, and it is well worth seeking out these locations before you head out. It is possible to catch cod on clearer ground, though you are much more likely to come across the odd group rather than a constant supply of fish.

Deep sea fishing requires moderately heavy duty equipment, which you will be thankful for if you are lucky enough to end up with a forty pound cod on the end of your line. Many deep sea anglers recommend using a six to eight foot fifty pound class rod coupled with a similarly weighted line. Though the majority of your catches will be safely under this limit, you never quite know what is on the other end of your line.

Cod are an excellent starting point for those looking to try deep sea fishing. Their scavenging nature ensures that they will accept a wide range of bait, and with the odd fifty pound monster lurking off the coast of Maine, are far from a small catch. The added incentive of being an excellent meal make cod an attractive target for any would-be deep sea fisherman, and with so many chartered trips running throughout the fishing season, there is no excuse not to get out there and give it a try.
